Autumn Dining in the Peak District: What’s New on the Menu

With the landscape brushed in amber and gold, autumn has arrived in full colour at The Peacock at Owler Bar. It’s a season made for slow dining, bold flavours and celebrating the simple pleasure of good food done well.

Since unveiling our new Autumn menu last week, we’ve been thrilled to see so many of you joining us at The Peacock at Owler Bar to enjoy a new season of dining.

Our menus change with the seasons, allowing us to celebrate the very best local produce the Peak District has to offer. Each dish has been crafted by our chefs to reflect the warmth and richness of autumn – hearty, nourishing and full of character.

We’ve introduced plenty of exciting new dishes while keeping the favourites you love.

Here are just a few we think you should try on your next visit.

Starters worth sharing

Kick off your meal with our Hoisin-glazed pork belly, served with pak choi Asian slaw and soy & sesame sauce – a perfect balance of sweet, savoury and spice. For something with a local twist, the Henderson’s-caramelised onion & cranberry scotch egg pairs rich flavour with a hint of nostalgia, served with carrot & horseradish purée and rocket salad.

Vegetarians and vegans will love the sweet potato & chestnut arancini, presented with celeriac purée and sweet potato crisps – an ultimate autumn comfort dish.

Mains to warm your soul

Our spiced roasted butternut squash & new potato salad is autumn on a plate. Choose from toppings like grilled rump steak, honey & thyme goat’s cheese parcel or sweet chilli & coriander prawns to make it your own.

For something classic, the Bakewell bangers with creamy mashed potato, crispy onions, pancetta and gravy are a local favourite. While the pan-fried salmon with haddock & root vegetable fishcake served with caper beurre blanc offers a lighter but equally indulgent option.

If you’re after real autumnal comfort, try the slow-cooked beef brisket, served with colcannon mash, roasted carrots and red wine jus – a dish that feels like a hug after a walk across the moors.

Desserts that taste like autumn

End on a sweet note with our sticky toffee pudding topped with butterscotch sauce and banana split ice cream, or dive into our chocolate brownie with cranberry & cinnamon mousse for something rich and festive.

Our chocolate & Grand Marnier yule log is another must-try. A decadent treat served with spiced mascarpone and blood orange mousse. Even better, £1 from every sale goes to a charity we support, Me & Dee Charity.

Light bites and leisurely lunches

If you’re joining us for a lighter meal or mid-day pick-me-up, our lunch menu has had its own seasonal refresh. Enjoy dishes like pulled pork, brie and cranberry ciabatta, or try something plant-based with our sun-dried tomato, garlic and chickpea hummus open sandwich on toasted sourdough.

For a pub classic, honey-glazed gammon and chips or our fish finger sandwich never disappoints.
