New Summer Menu at The Peacock at Owler Bar
The Peacock at Owler Bar has a brand new seasonal summer menu. View it here.
We caught up with Group Executive Chef, Adrian Gagea, who explained the vision behind the new menu.
‘As a chef, I feel very privileged to have access to such premium ingredients from all over the Peak District. This menu has the freshest ingredients, sourced from just down the road making each dish so fresh and vibrant.’
‘There’s a definite hint of Mediterranean inspiration, global flavours and pub classics with a twist on this new summer menu.’
Seafood Lovers Delight
Seafood lovers will adore the freshest catches from our fishmonger RG Morris & Sons based in Buxton. Dive right into our rigatoni seafood pasta in rustic marinara sauce or the pan-fried seabass with lemon thyme velouté, chorizo and sautéed leeks. ‘This one is delicate, punchy and just the dish to try with a cold glass of white wine in the sun.’ said Adrian.
Cured salmon, pickled charred cucumber, velvety mango cream cheese mousse and toasted sourdough (GFa)
Vegan and Vegetarian
For those following a vegetarian or plant-based diet the crispy aubergine bites served with Asian slaw, Korean gochujang dressing, toasted sesame seeds and pickled chillies is a must-try starter. For your vegan main, the spiced mixed bean and courgette burger has been such a hit that we had to keep it for the summer.
For something lighter, the stir-fried egg noodles with Thai-style vegetables in a roasted peanut hoisin sauce can become an interesting vegetarian dish with the addition of maple tofu and grilled tenderstem broccoli.
Pub Classics
While the more interesting and elegant dishes are certainly a hit on our menus, the pub classics with an elegant twist always prove popular.
Our homemade Derbyshire pie dish changes regularly. This is comfort food at its finest with a little bit of healthy thanks to the minty crushed peas and sautéed kale. That’s two of your five a day there!
The beer-battered cod with fish supplied by RG Morris Fishmongers in Buxton is battered in our Longbow IPA from our friends Thornbridge Brewery. This gluten-free beer makes our fish and chips accessible to those needing to avoid gluten. Served with proper chips, minted mushy peas, roasted lemon and homemade tartare sauce – it’s one of our most popular dishes for good reason!
Our meat is sourced from our friends The Ginger Butchers in Bakewell. Meat is reared and cared for at New Close Farm, Over Haddon and you can taste the freshness in our steaks and burgers. The Longbow Signature burger always goes down well. All our burgers are handmade using only the best cuts of locally reared and sourced beef.
For something a little different with all the best flavours of summer, don’t miss the lambchetta. It’s our Mediterranean-inspired rolled lamb dish served with Greek feta salad and grilled pitta.
Don’t Skip Dessert
Whenever we ask Group Executive Chef, Adrian Gagea, about new menus he always waxes lyrical about the desserts, revealing his sweet tooth. When desserts are so loved and taken so seriously by our chefs, you know you need to make sure you leave room!
Adrian’s favourite from this menu is the dark chocolate mousse. Served with cherry compote and vegan honeycomb it is a must-order for chocolate lovers. It’s also plant-based too as we use maple syrup in place of honey for the honeycomb (should we call that maplecone? Not sure!).
Adrian also told us about the exotic fruit semifreddo. ‘This dessert is really interesting. It’s packed with exotic fruits including dragonfruit, passionfruit, mango, papaya and kiwi. We mascerate the fruit with sugar to turn it into a mousse that is bursting with tropical flavour. With the accompanying mint and basil, caramel praline and smoked almonds, this is so good on a summer’s day.’
As we are so close to the beautiful village of Bakewell, no dessert menu here would be complete without Bakewell tart. Ours is homemade (as are all our dishes), and is served with crème anglaise and raspberry ice cream. £1 from every sale of the Bakewell tart goes to local charity Me and Dee which aims to help local families with children suffering a life-limiting condition make memories. You’ll actively be doing a good deed every time you eat our Bakewell tart.
Free Desserts Until the End of June!
Don’t forget, we’re offering free desserts when you order a starter and main course Monday to Friday. This offer ends on Monday, 30th June. Terms and conditions can be found here.
