Autumn arrives at The Peacock at Owler Bar

There’s something magical about autumn in Derbyshire. The air turns crisp, the hills glow golden, and hearty comfort food takes centre stage.

At The Peacock at Owler Bar, our chefs have embraced the season with a brand-new Autumn Menu, launching Wednesday 29th October, that’s packed with warming flavours, comforting classics and irresistible dishes made to make the most of the season.

Celebrating seasonal flavours

Autumn brings a bounty of rich, earthy ingredients perfect for those cosy evenings spent catching up with friends or enjoying a Sunday meal by the fire.

Our new menu celebrates the best of local, seasonal produce and features a mouthwatering mix of traditional favourites and creative new dishes.

Here’s a little taste of what’s waiting for you:

  • Hoisin-glazed pork belly with pak choi, Asian slaw, soy and sesame sauce (GF)
  • Smoked haddock, salmon and prawn fish pie in a bechamel sauce with a crown of cheesy mashed potato, served with sautéed seasonal vegetables (GF)
  • Red lentil & beetroot risotto, maple & thyme roasted baby carrots, crispy halloumi and grilled courgettes, toasted pumpkin seeds (GF) (V)
  • Slow-cooked beef brisket with colcannon mashed potato, roasted carrots and grilled tenderstem broccoli finished with a rich red wine jus (GF)
Pie, mash and peas

Classics done right

Some dishes are too loved to ever take off the menu, so our guests will still find a few Peacock favourites returning this season, including:

  • Seasonal soup of the day served with warm bread and butter (GFa) (VEa)
  • Derbyshire homemade pie of the week served with creamy mashed potato or triple-cooked chips, crushed minty peas, sautéed kale and proper gravy
  • Beer battered fresh haddock fillet, triple-cooked chips, minted mushy peas, roasted lemon and homemade tartare sauce (GF)
  • The Longbow signature burger with BBQ beef brisket and double cheese (GFa)

And by popular demand, we’re introducing a proper autumnal treat:

  • Bakewell bangers and creamy mash, topped with crispy onions, pancetta and proper gravy (GF)

Plant-based delights

Our new menu also gives plenty of love to plant-based diners. Expect dishes that are as vibrant and flavour packed as their meaty counterparts, such as:

  • Spice roasted butternut squash and new potato salad with pickled fennel, sweet chilli-marinated peppers, honey and thyme candied pecans (GF) (VE)
  • Sweet potato and chestnut arancini with celeriac purée and sweet potato crisps (GF) (VE)
  • Spiced mixed bean cassolette with chickpea and soy falafel, grilled tenderstem broccoli and fresh rocket salad (GF) (VE)

Most of our dishes can be adapted for gluten-free diets, so everyone can enjoy the best of autumn without compromise.

Lunchtime treats

If you’re looking for a midday pick-me-up, our refreshed lunch menu runs Monday to Saturday, 12pm to 5pm, featuring hearty sandwiches and dishes designed to keep you fuelled through the day. New highlights include:

  • Rump steak and blue cheese sandwich with red onion and blueberry chutney (GFa)
  • Pulled pork, brie and cranberry ciabatta served with gravy (GFa)
  • Sun-dried tomato, garlic and chickpea hummus open sandwich with spiced battered mushrooms and sautéed vegetables on toasted sourdough (GFa) (VE)
  • Honey-glazed gammon and chips with a fried egg (GF)
  • Haddock and root vegetable fishcake with tartare sauce, rocket salad and a poached egg (GF)
  • Fish finger sandwich with baby gem lettuce and tartare sauce (GFa)

All served with a mixed leaf salad and coleslaw, perfect for a relaxed lunch or a quick bite between adventures.

Something for the little ones

At The Peacock, we love welcoming families. Our Children’s Menu has been refreshed for autumn too, with new tasty options including:

  • Sausage and mashed potato with gravy (GF)
  • Chicken noodles with roasted tomato sauce
  • Mixed bean cassolette with chickpea and falafel and grilled broccoli (GF) (VE)

Don’t forget! Kids eat free when dining with an adult ordering two courses or from our seasonal set menu.

Irresistible desserts

No meal is complete without a little indulgence. Our autumn desserts are made to warm the soul and satisfy every sweet tooth. Some of our favourites include:

  • Sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and banana split ice cream (V)
  • Traditional bread and butter pudding with crème anglaise and vanilla ice cream (GF) (V)
  • Chocolate and Grand Marnier yule log with spiced mascarpone, blood orange mousse, orange coulis and honeycomb (V)

Or, if you prefer something cooler, try three scoops of locally made Bluebell Dairy ice cream or sorbet, with flavours including:

  • Ice Cream: Honeycomb Crunch, Vanilla, Banana Split, Vegan Vanilla
  • Sorbet: Raspberry and Orange
